A note on shopping for tea: Contamination is an issue for many tea brands, so I recommend always looking for organic tea whenever possible. Heavy metals such as lead can be found in many plant products, because it is absorbed from the soil, and tea is known to absorb lead at a higher rate. White tea, because it is picked sooner, is known to have lower amounts on average. An easy solution, if you donât want to just drink white? Avoid non-organic tea from China. Studies have found that Chinese industrial pollution causes the leaves to have higher lead levels.25 I suggest getting your tea only from Japan, where contamination is less of a problem.
Herbal Tea
If caffeine isnât your jam or you just want more variety, herbal teas are made from a combination of single herbs, plants, fruits, and spices and differ from the aforementioned varieties by the fact that they contain zero caffeine. But what they lack in caffeine they make up for in their incredible and diverse health benefits. Chances are, whatever health problem you are dealing with, there is an herbal tea to help remedy your symptoms.
There are many more types of herbal tea than just the ones on the following list, but if I included all of them, they would fill this entire book! Instead, let this be your go-to tea guide for the most common health problems I see among my patients. So grab your favorite mug and start steeping away your health woes one cup at a time.
